How people describe it
These are the four we hear most, in the words they arrive in. If yours is on the list, the fault behind it is usually already known.
- Oven running well above or well below the temperature you set
- Broil element glowing at one end only, or not lighting at all
- Door no longer pulls itself shut and heat escapes at the top
- Panel lights up but ignores every touch after a power flicker
What it costs
What oven repair costs in Los Angeles
Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.
Before anything is opened
Parts and labour come back to you as one figure, and it is agreed before the work starts. Nothing is stripped down, ordered or fitted until you have said yes to that number.
Say yes and the $89 you paid for the visit comes off it, so the diagnosis is never charged twice.
- Igniter or burner assembly
- $170–$480
- Oven thermostat or heating element
- $210–$480
- Refrigeration fan or defrost system
- $280–$610
- Dishwasher pump or control
- $190–$410
- Control board or touch panel
- $480–$610
- Compressor or sealed-system repair
- $1,290–$3,430
Each line is a range because the same fault does not turn up in the same state twice. An igniter on a 30-inch top and an igniter buried under a 48-inch griddle are not one job, and a part already on the van is not the same wait as one ordered against your model and serial. Where in the range yours sits is settled at the visit, before the work begins.
For comparison
Replacing rather than repairing runs $7,140–$16,310 for a comparable Viking replacement, before installation. That is the number the bands above are really measured against, and it is why a Viking that is otherwise sound is usually worth putting right.
From the route
Oven calls around Los Angeles
Period cabinet runs rebuilt around a modern oven often close off the vent gap the oven needs. That shows up months later as a thermal switch tripping partway through a roast.

Our oven kept cutting out partway through a long roast. The vent above it had been closed in when the old cabinets were rebuilt, so it was overheating itself. He opened the gap and replaced the tripped switch.
Zaria M.Larchmont Village
Lower cavity of the double oven went completely dead while the top half carried on as normal. A failed relay on the control board, not the whole board. One part, one visit, and he tidied up after himself.
Yaritza C.Encino
The oven door sagged open a finger width and heat poured into a kitchen that is already small. Tired hinge springs and a flattened seal. It shuts square now. Four stars only because it took two trips.
