The single most useful thing you can do for a professional cooktop costs nothing and takes less time than boiling a stock. Tip the head so the ring of small holes catches a window or a torch. A clear port shows daylight. A blocked one is dark, and it will usually be one of the two or three nearest wherever the pot boiled over.

Clear and dry, then seat it square
A stiff brush and a straightened paper clip are the only tools this needs. Never a needle or a drill bit — either one widens the port permanently and changes the flame for the rest of the range's life. Dry everything, then set the head and cap back so they sit flat with no rock in them.
